To further advance the internationalization strategy and build a platform for international exchange in life and health education, the School of Nursing of Nanchang University, together with its International Summer School Program, organized special instruction in first aid skills. At 14:30 on September 18, the special training “Campus First Aid and Popularization of Public First Aid Techniques” was held at the Nursing Science Center Laboratory of Qianhu Campus and was intended for Spanish exchange students in China. The course was taught by Li Hongyan, Vice Dean of the School of Nursing, and Bi Ruixue, Deputy Director of the Teaching and Research Office of Emergency Nursing. Yuan Jun and Gu Qinxia, two teachers from the laboratory, made full preparations and provided support. Under the overall guidance of the “Nanding Honghu” Functional Party Branch for Volunteer Service, the graduate “Nanhu Yan” Volunteer Service Team actively undertook on-site teaching assistance. Through professional hands-on teaching, the faculty and students of the School conveyed the first aid philosophy of putting life first to overseas students, joining hands with Chinese and foreign youth to build a safety barrier.

Sudden fainting on the sports field, airway foreign body obstruction in the cafeteria, falls on staircases, fainting in classrooms... Campus accidents happen from time to time. Providing correct first aid immediately often buys the most precious time for professional rescue. This is exactly the significance of the School’s continued efforts to offer first aid courses to faculty, students, and international trainees.

The activity adopted a teaching model of “theoretical explanation + on-site demonstration + group hands-on practice,” covering four modules: the Heimlich maneuver, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), automated external defibrillator (AED) operation, and bandaging and fracture immobilization.

The teachers explained key points for identifying airway foreign body obstruction and demonstrated the Heimlich maneuver in the context of various campus emergency scenarios; broke down the complete CPR process step by step, with emphasis on the standards for chest compressions; introduced AED operating procedures based on the chain of survival; and explained key points for identifying fractures, demonstrating trauma first aid techniques such as triangular bandage immobilization for forearm fractures.

After the theoretical lecture, the hands-on workshop officially began. The Spanish trainees practiced in groups using simulation teaching aids, taking turns to practice chest compressions, AED operation, the Heimlich maneuver, and fracture bandaging and immobilization. The trainees carefully refined the details of their movements, actively asked questions and exchanged ideas, and discussed with the instructors the current status of first aid popularization in their own country. The on-site learning atmosphere was strong.

At the end of the activity, the participating Spanish students said that the first aid course was explained in an accessible way, the hands-on practice was substantial and interesting, and the rescue techniques they learned were highly practical, effectively improving their ability to save themselves and each other in sudden emergencies. First aid knows no borders, and life is safeguarded together. The School of Nursing of Nanchang University will continue to give full play to the professional advantages of the nursing discipline and, relying on platforms such as the International Summer School, bring first aid knowledge to more international youth, allowing the warm power of protecting life to cross borders and be passed on continuously.
